So what's the lowest mAh requirement for a "good" vape for a USB mains adapter? All mine are sadly only 550mAh mobile phone adapters, so if I buy one.. I want to make sure I get a good one..

Also I guess that beggars the question: what is too much? Smiley

Hi, I think you need to be looking at at least 1300mA(Amps) +. The MAh is actaully different to mA (Mah is how much charge it stores & mA is the level of power/output). If you use a USB Mains adaptor then the Mah would not be relavent - because you cannot charge it so i guess MAH would be zero. You will however get a Mah on a portable usb device (i.e the Kensington) as u are able to charge them up (the kensington portable device is 1800mA(Amps) but not sure what the Mah is).

As to what is too much - IMO i would say u dont want to go over 2000MaAmps

Ohhhh.. right.. yer.. because I was looking and looking and looking for an adapter. I have a genuine iPhone/iTouch mains adpater on back order which I will get next month but I'm not sure it will be up to the task.

Most of the ones I am seeing have a max charge of 1,000mAh but a max current of 1500mA.. I guess most devices need less than that.. that's what the Kensington one says it is I thought..?

Hrmm.. now I am confused.. I read something that said that the extra current was there to prevent straining the charger by using it at the max capacity of the charging current... so like it says 1500 (or maybe 1800) but it is really only intended to have 1000 used.. or something like that.

Hi, A iphone/itouch adapter should work. When i use my Kensington USB Mains adapter  (I think thats 1A - seems to give me about 3.7V) it works fine but is not as powerful as the Kensington portable power pack (I think thats 1500/1800Ma - seems to give me 5V) - Sorry but not much of an expert on the power/output etc.. Undecided so cannot go into more detail

Well my genuine Apple iPod/iPhone/iTouch USB mains adatper arrived (finally) and it has a 5v 1A output.. great! I didn't pay for it, got it through work, so that's even better! Cheesy Will give it a try on the old 901 PT tonight and if all goes well, I'll be ordering a brand new 510 PT, along with an Aurora and some other stuff Smiley

I've noticed that my charger actually puts out less punch than my computer.. weird.. but that's where I stick it now.. in the USB port of the computer.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the 510PT runs really hot.. I have to direct-drip a lot more when I am running the PT than when I am running through a standard 3.7v device... and that's through the computer USB port.. I get maybe 5 or 6 draws from each 3 drops of liquid before I start to taste dry-atty.. oh and this on a standard atty not a LR..

Not that I am unhappy with it.. just not used to a 510PT I guess. I've had the 901PT for a while and 901's run relatively cooler by themselves..

Hi Light,

Yes the 510 will eat through more juice than a 901 and get hotter...Its a lower resistance than the 901.

I like the GDPT with an adapter and a 901 atty.  Seems to me 5v at it's best (though it may not actually be 5v  Cheesy  )

Depends what you plug it into......computer USB port, Kensington or mains USB adapter, I find they vary quite a bit.

Yer.. it's odd because when I plug it into a 5v 1,000mA rated USB mains charger, I get a lot less punch than I get from simply plugging it into my computer. I'd say at least 25% (if not more) reduction in power! From what I understand, this is the exact reverse of what others experience.

seems odd i plug into pc or kensington and get the same vape experiance no strength or qualety drop.
the issue with usb s on pc is a known issue with some users guess all depends on the usb output strength and the powerunit of the pc.

Yup.. just tried a few combinations.. even with an LR510 on the 510PT with mains and still worse. Will be looking at getting a Kensington.. heck I have tried everything else, literally..

Even tried on my PS3, which is closer to my bed.. and that was even worse than the mains adapter... it seems to output a little power and then cut off after a second.

Yay! My Kensington has arrived and it even came with a AU power plug adapter built in to the packaging! Smiley I noticed that the actual wall charger for this device has amax output of 1000mA but the battery ramps it up to 1500mA.

The manual is unfortunately a little bit lacking on how best to use the battery. Is it ok to run a device off the battery at the same time it is charging? Or should I be waiting for it to fully charge, then unplugging it from the mains, then plugging in my device?

Ok.. well I went ahead and plugged into it because I don't think there would be a problem and the picture in the manual "kind of" issinuates that this is possible..

Anyway, I have another question about the charging... the blue lights keep cycling forever.. I checked the charge, with the button on the top, and it has 5 lights.. I assume that simply means it is greater than 80% charged.. or more likely greater than 90% or something like that.. I assume, since it's been on the 5 lights for a long time now, that it never actually stops cycling the lights to indicate it is fully charged?

Anyway.. had a few vapes on it, both with it connected to the mains and in portable mode.. and I must say it is an excellent output!! Woohoo finally!!! Cheesy This is going to come with me in the car and for in bed too.. I think it's great! Might need to buy a second one though.. haha.. one for the car (and a second GD PT) and one for home etc Tongue

This thing is *beeping* great! Cheesy

Thanks to everyone who suggested the Kensington.. I have it in bed and it works like a dream! I can have it portable or plugged in and it just keeps pumping out the power Smiley

I'm pleased you are enjoying it light.

Have fun.

I use mine in passthrough mode, ie charging whilst vaping. Its fully charged when blue lights stop cycling.

So can anyone recommend a mains USB adapter that will definitely work for around a fiver?

MY GDPT arrived today and I am massively disappointed that it will not work off the mains with my 901 USB charger and my phone USB mains plug (5v-1A). My standard 901 worked fine on my phone charger and really dont want to be tied to my laptop!!

Thanks Doc, bit the bullet and bought one this morning. Only really wanted a mains adapter but I guess the power pack will be useful for work although I will feel like a bit of a tool outside puffing on a wired box!!

@GDibley - Although I was disappointed that the PT wouldnt work with my mains adapters I have to say that your passthrough is an exceptional device. The build quality is outstanding and it works just brilliantly on my laptop!

hey  ;)wellkome menz,
that is true i tend to use it less when shopping in my dupermarket or when going to the postoffice, nowadays.
just got a riva lite kitand and constructed a sheepskin black lanjard holderbag, thats allmost waightless....
for going outside with, not only is this classy when out but allso perfect for work environment in light to intensive workshop applikations.
however the GDPT is my main appliance during the day.
what can I say, Grin I'm a gadget man.
